i found this on a friend's blog. thought it would be interesting to
share...
Throw me every Arts student stereotype you’ve heard. Bad in Math. Hopeless in
Science. Good linguistic abilities. Good essay writing skills. (Contentious:
Anonymous GP teacher) The bane of all teachers’ existences. I claim them all. I
love unpredictability and uncertainty. I love there being many possible
questions to an answer. I am an Arts student to the bone …… I live for the arts.
To me, life would be meaningless if we couldn’t act, dance, sing, paint, sculpt,
play an instrument or design our way through it.
Of course, we are the silent
sufferers, sometimes. Arts students all around Singapore seem to be terribly
misunderstood, because too often, the majority wins …… the commemoration of the
arts seems to be omnipotent in the college. And perhaps that stems from a
minority complex, in which the people of seem to be gelled together by the fact
that they are horribly outnumbered.
…I don’t feel like I am being undervalued
and overshadowed by the Science people with their sensible combinations. Give me
the impracticality of my subjects. Give me the ink-stained hand aches that come
with writing essay upon essay. Give me the ambiguity of not knowing if I aced it
or not after my papers. Because those are what makes our lives so horribly
exciting. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
